Vorlage war die gleichnamige Cartoon- Serie von Charles Addams. 1973 und -nach dem Erfolg des Kinofilms- 1992 wurde jeweils auch eine Zeichentrickserie "The Addams family" produziert. 1970 brachte N3 13, 1975 die ARD 7 deutsch untertitelte Originalfolgen unter dem Titel "Die Addams Familie". SAT1 strahlte ab 1989 alle Folgen synchronisiert als "Addams Family" aus. 1998 kam mit 'The new Addams Family' eine Fortsetzung mit neuer Besetzung ins US-Fernsehen, die 2000 auf Premiere World als 'Die neue Addams Familie' ihre deutsche Erstausstrahlung hatte.
